Viva Las Vegas!

As many of you know, we just moved to Las Vegas. Anthon got an internship here and we're probably gonna stay here for 3-4 months.

The first time we went to the strip (after we moved here), Anthon kept singing "Viva, vivaaaaa Las Vegaaaas!" I was embarassed because of his loud voice and the people around us that could hear us...and I thought that Anthon had just "composed" this little melody. He often does that..

But then he explained to me that Elvis sang this song about las Vegas.

I just tried to find that song on youtube.com and fond this hilarious version.

Elvis was a great singer...but I don't think he was a great dancer. It looks so funny!

The first 5 days here in Vegas, we stayed at a hotel before we moved into our new apartment. I thought I would die in that room, being on my own for 11 hours without Anthon...but the fitness room and the pool helped me to survive.
Since Friday, we are at our apartment. My first impression was good, my second :-S  The salamander that I found in the bathtub (while Anthon was gone) didn't help with that.

Anthon and I love walking around in malls, cities,... We normally don't buy anything, but we enjoy seeing new things, talking about the things we see, taking pictures... and Vegas is a great place for that.

Vegas is a cool city. I'm not sure if I could live here for a couple of years, but it's still a cool city. Or.. let's call it "interesting".

When we walk through the Casinos and see the scantily clad waitresses that have to work there for 8 hours or more, being looked at and touched by gross guys, working in that nasty smelling smoking environment, I really feel sorry for them. Not to mention all these other ladies that have to sell their bodies to make ends meet.

Anyway, I think the coolest thing we've done on the strip so far, was trying 16 different coke-drink flavors from all around the world. We only had to pay 7 bucks for that...so if you're planning on going to Vegas, that's definitely something you should do. It was fun and very interesting.

And here are the judges: Anthon Petty from everywhere, and Melissa Günter from Germany

I saved the pictures the right way, but for some reason it adds them like that.. it's okay..

So, No. 1 is called Lift Manzana and is from Mexico. We drink it all before we decided to take notes and pictures of each drink. All that we can remember is that we both liked it.

No. 2 Fanta Kolita from Costa Rica: it's very sweet and has an orange taste...but as I said very sweet! We didn't like it.
No. 3 Krest Ginger Ale from Mazambique: like the name says, it tastes like Ginger Ale. It's flavor is just not as intense as the American version, but Anthon and I both liked it.

No. 4 Ciel Aquarius from Mexico: we couldn't figure out what flavor this was supposed to have and it was not carbonated. We didn't like it.

No. 5: Sunfill Mint from Djibouti: Oh my goodness! This was nasty! It's not carbonated, it's a tiny bit thicker and slimier than water and it tastes like mouthwash. Our brains immediately tried to tell us: don't swallow it, it's mouthwash! :-) I almost felt like sinning swallowing it. :-)  This was the nastiest of all the flavors! Poor people in Djibouti!

No. 6: Smart Apple from China: This tasted like apple, but was very very sweet. Although it was very sweet, it was still good...but I probably couldn't drink it every day. Anthon liked it, too.

No. 7: Beverly from Italy: Nasty! Do you know these ceramic lamps, where you have a candle and above the candle you put scented oil in a little cup thing? It totally tastes like that. Gross! First, it's not bad...but then comes the weird aftertaste.... That was the second or third worst flavor.

No. 8: Mezzo Mix from Germany: I think this was our favorite, but we are probably a little bit biased because we both had Mezzo Mix growing up.

No. 9: Inca Kola from Peru: This tasted like bubble gum and was very sweet. Too sweet. So we both didn't like it.

No. 10: Sunfill Blackcurrant from Mauritius: This one was really good and tasted similar to cherry coke. We both liked it.
No. 11: Stoney Tangawizi from Tanzania: Gross! We couldn't really figure out its flavor, but we think it's Aloe with bitter lemon or so.. weird!

No. 12: Sparletta Sparberry from Zimbabwe: This looks and tastes exactly like American cough syrup. No kidding! Kids' cough syrup tastes better than normal cough syrup, but we could never just drink it for enjoyment. :-S

No. 13: Vegitabeta from Japan: This has an interesting flavor to it and we had to try it several times to figure out what this is supposed to taste like. But we still liked it. Since its name is Vegitabeta, there is probably some carrot flavor mixed with something else...mango? And since the Japanese people put seaweed in everything, there might be some seaweed flavor in there, too... :-)  No, we don't know.

No. 14: Simba Guarana from Paraguay: Coke with Guarana flavor. Anthon and I liked it.

No. 15: Smart Watermelon from China: Kind of funny that the Chinese cokes all start with "Smart..." Maybe they sell more cokes by naming them smart. Anyway, it was very sweet and Anthon says that this one tastes exactly like war head candy. No idea what that is. But..we both didn't like it.

No. 16: Kinlwy Lemon from England: Very bitter, but we both liked it.

Anthon and I should become professional food tasters...we love trying new foods and drinks and talking them.

Here are some random pictures that we took:

At Max Brenner's: I LOVE this restaurant. It's famous for its chocolate. There are pipes that run through the restaurant and they are full of CHOCOLATE. I'm an addict...

This is at Caesar's Palace. It's a little show that it shown every hour.

I think the Wynn towers (the Wynn and Encore) are among the coolest looking hotels here. They look so classy.

I think it's cool that almost every hotel has a different topic. That means you can travel around the world in just one day!

I really like details and these hotels are full of cool details.

Thinking of Dad...

 That's Spiderman's scariest enemy I've ever seen..

We saw a couple of Michael Jacksons, Elvis, Sesame Street figures, Disney figures... what an interesting city!
The famous fountain in front of the Bellagio. So beautiful! Especially at night.

In the inside of the Bellagio, there is a little garden, where I took the following pictures:

  2. Great post! I hope you had good walking shoes when you were on the strip. My feet get so tired when I have walked around Vegas for the day. Eek! The lizard. . . well I guess you are living in the desert. :)

  3. We bought some summer shoes before we got here. After walking around I always feel so drained... so many impressions, lights,... it's cool..but I'm always so tired after that.
